The Ringneck Parakeet

(Psittacula krameri manillensis)

The Ringneck is the most popular and widely kept of the Asiatic Parakeets. Wild caught mutant colour forms have been prized possessions since ancient Greek and Roman times and, today, there are reported to be no less than twenty-four primary colour varieties (I shall have my work cut out attempting to locate and list all these). Their range and diversity of colour is extraordinary in view of the apparently simple colour scheme of the wild form.
